Slaton making first impression (AP)

HOUSTON — Steve Slaton fumbled a pitch on one play and got his helmet knocked off on another during the second day of Houston Texans minicamp on Saturday. Later, he dodged three would-be tacklers and sprinted down the field. The former West Virginia star, drafted by the Texans in the third round, is getting plenty of snaps to show coach Gary Kubiak what he can do.

Spencer returns to Texans practice (AP)

The start of Houston Texans minicamp on Friday was more than just a practice to Charles Spencer. The 6-foot-4, 338-pound offensive lineman took the field with his team for the first time since breaking his left leg nearly two years ago, a severe injury that doctors thought could end his career. It’s a minor miracle that he’s even playing again, but Spencer’s goal now is earning back his job.

aj’s Voice of the Fan :: Texans cheerleader vote

Okay Texans fans, here’s a tough assignment.
Tired of all the Obama v. Clinton v. McCain garbage? Well here’s another set of candidates with arguably more substance (and much nicer on the eyes).
After a tough competition, Houston’s ABC television affiliate, abc13, is sponsoring a contest where you will decide which of three lovely young ladies will claim the last spot on the 2008 Houston Texans

Houston Texans :: Texans Sign Weary, Leave it to Fans to Decide Final Cheerleader Spot

The Texans have resigned G Fred Weary, who started 12 games last season. The one-year deal is reportedly worth up to $1.5 million with incentives, which are likely to be reached if he keeps his starting spot on the line.
In other news, there is one final spot open on the cheerleading squad, and the Texans […]

Houston Texans :: Demeco Ryans Wired for Sound

In the NFL owners meeting this off-season, a new proposal was agreed upon to allow teams to communicate directly to one of their defensive players during the upcoming season.
In previous years, teams were able to do so with an offensive player (always the quarterback) to enhance communication between the coaches and the offense. Hand signals were no […]

Texans Rock :: Mathis Done For Season With Leg Injury

I really hope we don’t look back at the end of the season and think what might have been.  The Texans injury problems went from silly to just plain stupid today when Jerome Mathis was lost for the season with some strange leg injury.  The official report is a stress fracture.
Chronicle Story
Big hit for the Texans as Jerome is a huge weapon on kick off returns which we all saw against the…

aj’s Voice of the Fan :: Texans sign undrafted free agents

The day or two following the draft is always a mad scramble for GMs as they try to sign additional talent that for whatever reason wasn’t selected during the NFL Draft.
The Texans reeled in eight players that will be added to the roster heading into minicamp and OTAs. Here’s the list.
LB Ben Moffitt (USF)
WR Ryan Grice-Mullins (Hawaii)
LB Marcus Richardson (Troy)
WR Darnell Jenkins (Miami, FL)

Ravens’ move for Flacco was bold, beautiful (SportingNews.com)

The Baltimore Ravens’ bold move to get Joe Flacco with the 18th pick in the NFL draft was a risk worth taking.

Texans sign G Weary to one-year deal (PA SportsTicker)

HOUSTON (Ticker) - The Houston Texans and guard Fred Weary have agreed on a one-year contract, according to Tuesday’s Houston Chronicle.

OL Weary return to Texans with 1-year deal, agent says (AP)

Offensive lineman Fred Weary has agreed in principle to a one-year deal to return to the Houston Texans, his agent said Tuesday. Weary started 12 games for Houston last season before breaking his leg in a loss to Tennessee. He is one of five players from Houston’s inaugural 2002 season who remains on the roster.
